Once a law is passed it is very difficult to get it repealed or overturned. This is why bad laws accumulate over time. One solution to this problem would be to require sunset dates on all laws. Each time a law expired it would either have to go through the whole process of being passed again in either its current form or a new form or it would lapse. This would keep legislators busy reviewing laws previously passed so that they would have less time to pass new bad laws.

Every single time I’ve attempted to explain to someone what the NFA is and how one goes about purchasing a suppressor or an SBR, I get no more than a few sentences in before their eyes inevitably begin to glaze over, so I don’t even try anymore. You guys at T-Rex Arms just solved this problem for me with this video, and for that I am grateful.

According to the Forgotten Weapons channel, short barrel rifles were included as a plug for a loophole. Handguns were included and they feared that people would shorten riffles to make them concealable and could be used as handguns. Then they pulled handguns and left the short barrel rifles.

The SBR and SBS were added because they were trying to restrict handguns. They knew people would just cut the barrel off a rifle or shotgun to avoid the handgun restriction. Once handguns were removed they couldn’t remove SBR/SBS because they already said how dangerous they were. So they were left on without showing how they were used in crime.

Absolutely excellent video for helping one make an informed decision about getting a suppressor. I can see the benefits for owning a suppressor. However, the cost, hurdle to legally own a suppressor, and wait time to actually take possession of the item outweighs the benefits for what I want it for. Thank you for the educational video!

Just coming across this video in mid-2023, and have to say this is remarkably well done! Well organized, clear, historically accurate, and interesting. I learned a lot, thank you. And the Costner add ons were just a bonus, LOL! FYI, years ago I saw an old ad that ran in American Rifleman or another gun publication in the 1920’s, selling the Maxim silencer for $1.50! It was being marketed exclusively to city dwellers so they could shoot their rifles (I’m assuming .22’s) without bothering their neighbors. That they put a $200 tax on a $1.50 part just shows what traitorous idiots those ahole politicians were, and are now that they still allow it.

I got my pair of cans (one 9mm and one .30 cal) at a time when the processing time was considerably shorter than a YEAR. My paperwork came back and I was able to take possession within 90 days. I hunt deer with a suppressor mounted on my M1A. Not illegal here in Tennessee. Having been a firearms Instructor for over 35 years as well as a (now retired) professional public school teacher of Social Studies in the Miami Dade Public Schools for 30 years I was able to give much of this information to thousands of students over that time period much to the fury of principals and the school board who threw their liberal weight at me for the entire time I was teaching. Fortunately, I was also a U.S. Army Infantry Officer and incapable of being crush by a bunch of mealy mouthed administrators!

I’ve always been interested in firearms technology… not that I know much compared to others. I can easily find a German handgun from WWII, but some of the firearms we’ve used in the states are hard to find and in some cases unattainable for the average person. As for suppressors, I’ve thought it would be cool to have one for shooting at an area where you can legally shoot but don’t want to bother people in the area too much. Or, maybe even get the sound low enough(and in a Dream scenario) setup a small shooting ally with the correct backstopping needed. Just so I can shoot as much as I want, whenever I want. I know that’s not possible… I’ve been lucky enough to know businesses that have automatic firearms. And while they are fun to shoot, the cost of ammo adds up quick! I would still love one of every firearms used by the US in WWII to the end of the Cold War. As a permanently disabled Vet. I know that will never happen. Heck, I would love one of every .22 from that time period used by the US, but because of my medical retirement and the pay issues going from active duty to VA pay, I had to abandon that dream and sell off what I had (with the rest of my collection from my 10 year station in West Texas) to pay what bills I could. Trying to be a good upstanding citizen who pays his debts… we had to give up a car, and sell our home of 5 years of ownership for what we still owed on it just to keep it from being taken by the bank. After 10 years I had to move back into my dads house just as broke if not more so, than I did when I left. Well… I did have a cane and a manual wheelchair, so I guess I can’t complain… I loved sitting on a porch with my dad and a couple 22’s shooting bottle caps plinking and even target shooting for accuracy. I don’t even have a pair of 22 rifles to shoot with my son (when I think he is ready in the next few years). I even quit going to gun and knife shows because I know I can’t afford any of those old 22’s if I come across them. I used to love going to those because the historical guys that have booths there are knowledgeable on the subject matter and can often help you find exactly what your searching for. I still had to do background checks with those guys but I didn’t mind. If sound suppressors could be bought and sold using the same background checks, maybe I would get one if I could afford it, but I know nothing about any affects it could have on accuracy of a shot so it would only be used in certain cases

I have a question that I haven't seen discussed before. Does using a muzzle brake vs a flash hider, in conjuction with a suppressor, increase flash signature to any measurable or noticeable degree? I'm currently using a Surefire muzzle brake with a Surefire Socom556 RC2. I went with a brake to act as a sacrificial baffle. Saying this, flash signature reduction is my highest priority so I'm willing to switch it out for a flash hider if there's a noticeable difference.

It might interest you to know that at the district court level, US versus Miller was decided in favor of the plaintiff.. The judge decided that the NFA was actually unconstitutional.. Unfortunately the defendant was indigent, the attorney in the case was pro Bono and therefore didn't follow the case to the Supreme Court where where BATF and DOJ lied about the specifics of what constituted military weapons at the time which included Short barreled shotguns. They had in fact been used in trench warfare in World War I. I would like to see more of these cases springboard from the reasoning that decided US versus Miller, i.e. that any weaponry used commonly by the military is what the 2nd amendment covers and therefore should be available to the average citizen
Brandon Roebuck
11 ай бұрын
@Morpheus Greene the other side here is people against guns gun ownership should not be a left vs right thing this video itself was critical of a right wing figurehead you can be right wing and anti-gun and left-wing and pro gun the only people who deserve insults are people who are too intransigent to see beyond "sides" and would rather engage in identity politics and party loyalties than actually put in work to protect *all* rights for *all* people the 2nd ammendment is important but there are other rights that are also fundamental to every citizen in this country that have constantly been attacked by both left and right leaning legislation if you watch this video and think it indicates that a left or right wing party is bad, then you missed the point of the video

I couldn't agree more. In Poland where I live suppressors can be purchased and possessed without any legal requirements by anyone. Polish gun act stays silent about them. On the other hand, it says that silenced guns are banned. So you can possess a suppressor legally but it's illegal to attach it to a gun. Laws are made by politicians without even a basic understanding of the matter :(

It's really funny that many people that are pro guns suffer massively from selective perspective. Most gun related crimes only take place because the weapon is already there and easy to get in the first place. Another fun fact: *Most criminals obey most of the laws* , they only brake a few of them. And most fun fact: Strict gun laws actually lead to an extreme downrise in gun violence, it has been proven in dozens of countries all around the world.

I've always put it this way to people. Suppressors are loud but a different kind of loud. For instance, if I walk out onto my front porch and scream at the top of my lungs as loud as I can, everyone in the neighborhood is going to hear it, everyone in my house is going to hear it, most everyone the next street over is going to hear it, and most people will come outside to see what it was. But even if your were standing right next to me while I was doing it, it wouldn't blow out your ear drums or damage your hearing for very long. Suppressors are kind of like that.. loud, just a different kind of loud

Oh my god that John Wick scene where you added in the scorching and burning of the clothing when they took the guns back in their jackets is absolutely hilarious. Excellent video quality by the way!

This video is so well put together and brings up such great arguing points that it should be challenged in court. Probably a long shot, but their are legitimate points made that can be backed up through evidence... evidently from the 1930s and 1940s. Great video and thanks for the information!

Very good, well put together and informative. Thank you. P.S. You make a good point about Hollywood having much to answer for in distorting public views of important issues and historical events.

One of the most informative and entertaining KZonlines videos I have seen in a long time. Great history lesson ! Very well articulated with no wasted dialog.👍 Gotta admit, I'm curious about that butteryfly that kept landing on his head in the opening scene, LOL !
