yeah, could you imagine purchasing this to save your family from an intruder, to only actually rely upon it to find a family member dead underneath it because it failed to stop a round it was rated for... .45 is a very common caliber. to not stop that means its not 3A... plain and simple

Matt, I'd like to answer your question about what it feels like to be hit wearing body armor. have been hit several times wearing both hard, military armor, and soft more police/second chance armor in my old job. They. Both. Hurt. Like. A. Bitch. Especially the next morning. The hard pate armor for me was akin to getting hit in the chest with a bat, yes I have had that happen too. That is the closest thing I can compare it to. In the moment it happened, I didn't really feel all that much besides a blunt impact that took me off my feet. I took a minute to realize what had happened. In the soft vest, I have been hit with several calibers, and it ranges in pain levels. Yes, you are correct, it does usually break ribs, skin, and did once crack my sternum. Again, the initial shock ranges from not that bad all the way to doubling you over. Give it an hour for the adrenaline to wear off, then tell me how you feel. The next morning really sucks. I actually had a 9mm go almost totally through once, that was not fun and bled a LOT! If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them. Love the channel, keep up the great work. -Austin

Austin, thank you for your service and hopefully you don't get shot at again but personally I have figured that it would hurt and perhaps brake bones and bruise, but a cracked sternum? That sounds intense hopefully this was not recently and if it was I hope you get better
AverageSlayer

Do you get used to the blunt trauma after awhile? Just curious, if you get shot at a lot, and actually get hit, would you eventually adapt to the pain, or trauma?
Austin Bond
2 жыл бұрын
@AverageSlayer Sort of yes and sort of no. Physics are physics and if you take a direct hit, you are going to feel the impact of that round and nothing changes that. Keep in mind you are taking the full ballistic force of that round as it is stopping on your body versus it traveling through you as it was designed. I have seen people get hit with both rifle and pistol rounds in fatal areas and keep moving forward without slowing down, but when I have taken a hit in my armor or watched others do the same we are almost always knocked off our feet and generally need some time to regain composure. Adrenaline, and to a lesser extent conditioning and "being used to it" do play a small part now that I think about it but ultimately you are at the mercy of the ballistics of whatever hits you. So in that respect no. Where "being used to it" really comes in is a few moments after it happens. Once the initial shock and trauma wear off and you begin to recompose yourself, that's where understanding what just happened helps. It helps you be able to think through your issue and do what you need to do (self-aid or whatever) to shift your focus back to the much larger issue generally still at hand (the asshole who just shot you). So in that way, yes, being used to it does in a way help. It also helps you in the days after once the adrenaline and cortisol wear off better be able to recover and deal with whatever trauma (broken bones, gnarly bruises, poop stained underpants, etc.) you may be left with.
AverageSlayer
2 жыл бұрын
@Austin Bond fascinating. I have a thing where i can quickly "get over something" physical. What i mean exactly, is that whenever i stub my toe, get punched hard, hit with an object etc, i usually handle it a lot better on the second occasion, and sometimes even ignore it. like a time i stubbed by toe really badly and couldnt really walk right for a bit, and the next time i stubbed my toe just as bad, i was able to act like it didnt even happen, and walk normally and pay no mind to it. though, the pain didnt decrease at all. i think my mind thinks "You've been through this once already, so you know what's coming." or something like that. though sometimes it doesnt always work that way, somethings you cant just shrug off and i'd assume getting shot, even with armor on, would be one of those things you cant easily shrug off as if it never happened. Thanks for responding to my question.

Hey Matt.... Have you ever tested the Dragon Skin? It is layered ceramic/titanium layered plate. It took a point blank frag grenade in this video. years ago when it first appeared, the inventor put a 44 mag to his own chest wearing it and remained standing and un-injured. It deflects impact power and displaces energy. Here's the link if you want to see it. You probably own some..hehehe... kzonlines.info/up/pdxlmKy5pYOfo58/bejne

Hey demo, I was thinking to myself recently and I was wondering “What’s the probability that round hits a pipe or wire if if fired off in a home invasion?” And I was hoping perhaps the king and chief scientist of the Demolitia would have the resource to test it. I understand that you are busy and it may not make for a great video, but I think it would be fairly interesting to see.

I've got an Automag II .... However mine is merely a .22 magnum. . . Nowhere near as crazy as that thing of yours there, but near identical looking. Fun to shoot too for sure, and despite being such a smaller cartridge, it still has a GIANT fireball with each damn shot. Also, maybe the blanket is only "3A" when doubled over, lol. Fully sprawled out it's cut in half....

Hey, Matt. I've had an idea for a feature shot you can attempt. You line up like ten propane tanks in a gauntlet formation. Turn the gas on without lighting it so they're all pointed at each other. And then see what round will ignite the gas. Incendiary, tracer. And then for guaranteed ignition fire a dragon's breath. I can picture it and it will be awesome! Trust me.

I would say it is shrapnel safe, most kevlar onöy based items cannot take bullets but they do stop hand grenade splinters etc. Today you need ceramic inserts anyway and better since military grade wests have difficulties even with the 5.56, a 7,62 ap wich is pretty basic ammo shreds body armour ( to an extent at least where a stopping version will be so heavy it is unusable)

The bulletproof coozie [sp?] could be converted into a set of wrist cuffs to at least protect your wrists in case they get hit. Might seem excessive and your wrists would break anyway, but more protection is always better and it's better your wrist is broken than having a hole through them.

I think a cool idea for a video would be one where you shoot it with some different materials possibly metals steel aluminum titanium but do it so you can shoot at a different ranges to see what kind of velocity is lost from impacts so you do want it like 50 yd and 200 yd and then 500 or as far as you can go and see what the velocity loss is like.

Midwest Armor (Knoxville, TN) is the company that made that so called "III-A" ballistic blanket.

I knew a guy who had a bullet proof shirt. The bullet didn't penetrate the shirt... it just pulled the shirt all the way through him. The good news is that he had a great dry cleaner. :-)

Listen Matt, I was thinking: what if you put this Kevlar apart and attach it to the armor plate? How much will protection increase?

The more kevlar gets shot, the more compromised its weave gets. Kevlar is kind of weaved together, and it spreads across the entire vest. When the bullet hits, it pulls on all of this weave, and spreads out the force to the whole area covered (each weave pulls on the weave attached, and they in turn pull on everything they're attached to as well), but it means it pulls into the area where it was hit. As it's pulled and clumped, it removes some of the stretch from other areas. It'll still work to some degree, but it's not as effective. So the manufacturer of the kevlar blanket may not be lying and you could have compromised it's 3A integrity by shooting it repeatedly.

Matt, I couldn't have written or said it better, but this guy is right. The blanket worked correctly. The more you shoot at it the more compromised the Kevlar gets. I was taught this more than 30 yrs ago as a young Marine, the more compromised the weaving gets the less effective it gets. So your results are faulty because of lack of research and testing.

I am not completely sure if you have done this yet but, I wonder if someone has fired a gun from a hovering drone.maybe use some kind of remote trigger mechanism. may lay some kind of padding and back wall to catch the gun and drone after it was fired. Whereas the both will plummet! this would be so cool to watch if it has not already been done. i've seen a lot of the vids from all your channels, subscribed and am trying to catch up. You really seem to inspire very many people and Me as well. So i would like to say THANK YOU, AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU SOMETIME!!!

I never trust anything that says bullet proof. More like bullet resistant. Most test labs shows after that first shot, if you lucky enough to hit that again it's going through the ripple. Excellent video.

When you yeeted that can out of the koozie and smacked the mannequins head off, I had a legitimate belly laugh. Haven't laughed that hard since the "will a boyfriend stop a 50 bmg" opening skit. 😂

My instincts and technical education tell me that penetration may depend on what is behind the armor. Matt, it could be an idea for your video
