David Bowie just loving the moment and the audience, it feels like he invited all his friends around for a sing-along and he's just having fun. What an incredible concert that must have been to attend. And what a classy great entertainer David Bowie was!

Bowie at his BEST! This has to be his best live video. If you watch it a few times, you'll see it is far superior to the original video, this is passionate, strong, and he truely feels this song, doesn't at just sing it. He's dressed impeccably, his band is awesome. Everyone on stage is having FUN! He left us his legacy, thru his music. He's sending a message, listen to his words. RIP David, we love you,! Vallie

I am a nurse. Or soon to be one. One day, I had just started this job, I was frozen. Paralyzed. I just didn't wanna do this again. Too many patients, not enough nurses. I was so young but I felt sooo broken. And I decided to motivate myself with some music. This song came on shuffle. It's now my special song. I hear it EVERY day before work. Especially last year it helped me sooo much to not lose faith in my job and what I do every day. Bowie is and will always be a true legend.

@David Levy That's an aspect of his live performances that only became more resonant and self-evident as time passed. Imagine what he'd be up to now. I try to think of how centered he was to have commanded the stage the way he did here, and it's stunning, to me. I love the Spiders, the Lodger / Berlin junkie, the Duke, and all the myriad iterations of the Bowie enigma, but I can't help but wonder how things like Tin Machine liberated him. It just seemed like the late 80s thru 90s is when he took off and the live performances leapt to a different level. Man I miss him.

When Bowie said "I felt that" at the end of the song, he was talking to a German audience and they knew what he meant. And many of them likely saw him perform this song in 1987 right next to the Wall, 2 years before it came down. This is what Bowie said about performing Heroes in W Berlin in 1987: I’ll never forget that. It was one of the most emotional performances I’ve ever done. I was in tears. They’d backed up the stage to the wall itself so that the wall was acting as our backdrop. We kind of heard that a few of the East Berliners might actually get the chance to hear the thing, but we didn’t realize in what numbers they would. And there were thousands on the other side that had come close to the wall. So it was like a double concert where the wall was the division. And we would hear them cheering and singing along from the other side. God, even now I get choked up. It was breaking my heart. I’d never done anything like that in my life, and I guess I never will again. When we did “Heroes” it really felt anthemic, almost like a prayer. However well we do it these days, it’s almost like walking through it compared to that night, because it meant so much more.

Bowie played this at Live Aid from Wembley Stadium, England in 1985, and also at the Berlin Wall in 1987. Regarding the later performance, Bowie said in his Performing Songwriter interview: "I'll never forget that. It was one of the most emotional performances I've ever done. I was in tears. They'd backed up the stage to the wall itself so that the wall was acting as our backdrop. We kind of heard that a few of the East Berliners might actually get the chance to hear the thing, but we didn't realize in what numbers they would. And there were thousands on the other side that had come close to the wall. So it was like a double concert where the wall was the division. And we would hear them cheering and singing along from the other side. God, even now I get choked up. It was breaking my heart. I'd never done anything like that in my life, and I guess I never will again. When we did 'Heroes' it really felt anthemic, almost like a prayer. However well we do it these days, it's almost like walking through it compared to that night, because it meant so much more. That's the town where it was written, and that's the particular situation that it was written about. It was just extraordinary. We did it in Berlin last year as well - 'Heroes' - and there's no other city I can do that song in now that comes close to how it's received. This time, what was so fantastic is that the audience - it was the Max Schmeling Hall, which holds about 10-15,000 - half the audience had been in East Berlin that time way before. So now I was face-to-face with the people I had been singing it to all those years ago. And we were all singing it together. Again, it was powerful. Things like that really give you a sense of what performance can do. They happen so rarely at that kind of magnitude. Most nights I find very enjoyable. These days, I really enjoy performing. But something like that doesn't come along very often, and when it does, you kind of think, 'Well, if I never do anything again, it won't matter.'"

I've always been a fan and a got more into him in my 20s but saw moonage daydream last weekend and it's reawakened an obsession in me and reminded me of what a truly spectacular person he was. I've been immersing myself in his music, interiviews, live performances. He was just wonderful

I discovered Bowie when I was 9 years old by watching Labyrinth. I then had my first cd for Christmas that year, The rise and fall of Ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars. Then I discovered glam rock. Then I discovered Lou Reed. Then I discovered Andy Warhol, and then the 60s and classic rock and then performance art... When he died I was fifteen and people couldn't figure out why I couldn't stop crying in class, why I was inconsolable. I never got to see him, but the amount of inspiration he unknowingly gifted me pushed me to go to university to study art, to make conceptual works. This man was so amazing, I wish he could've lived a 100 years more. Love you forever Ziggy.

Such a simple song, in terms of the sparse phrasing, but so so so deep with feeling/meaning that it far surpasses everyone and everything. Bowies performance, his delivery is so powerful, and he takes you with him on that emotional journey, with just a few words, we can be heroes......just for one day💜✌
