Elena's winning a lot of fans with her calm and quiet but deadly game.

The translation of Rybakina's surname roughly means "Fisher". And she really catches her "fish" on the court, being calm and as concentrated as possible. But at crucial moments she acts precisely, powerfully and decisively.

In the meantime, Iga's scalp is hanging as a hunting trophy on the wall at Rybakina. Iga is a talented athlete, but it seems that politics takes a lot of her time. By the way, do all Poles like that she wears the flag of Stepan Bandera? 💀💀💀

what's remarkable is that Rybakina didn't even look like she had to push herself too hard or get too far out of her comfort zone to beat Iga. she pretty much just blew Iga off the court without any fanfare, grunting, shrieking, and all the other nonsense that many WTA players do to pump themselves up

Rybakina and her coach managed to solve the Iga puzzle and are now clicking it as if it were sunflower seeds. But unfortunately, Elena doesn't do it with all the players... Now there is some extremely talent-rich generation of players, in the TOP-10 everyone can win against each other.

Absolutely love Elena's zen-like mental state. Add to that, her refusal to play to the gallery - she remains a true-blue introvert who lets her racquet do the talking - hats off! A win against Iga is icing on the cake

@QuadThreat85 I totally agree that she is horrible. I don't know how the commentators praise her so much. I thought I was the only one who didn't like her but now I'm looking on KZonlines and it's great to read what others are pointing out about her. I'm thinking she must be on drugs, or medication of some sort or something, to act like she does... totally, totally frantic and just thinking about herself the whole time. Doing her very best to annoy and unsettle her opponent. She's all me, me, me, me. And she's never ready to go to the net at coin toss never! Always searching for something in her bag, always makes her opponent wait. I was so glad when she got a time violation a few tournaments ago. Can't stand her.
QuadThreat85
Күн бұрын
@Mary Kistnen she has a little bag of tricks. Waving her hands while she is at the net before the opponent hits a pass, retying her shoes between first and second serves of her opponent, changing rackets mid service game (of the opponent) because she lost a point, a few extremely questionable timing of bathroom breaks... She's horrible.

Rybakina studied Iga's quick movements and anticipation of the ball well enough to use it against her. It's all about getting the right angles when playing Iga. Iga can really be helpless and all that foot work can be flawed. Congrats to both, a great match to watch.

Rybakina is my favourite player now - and has been since that magic Wimbledon run. If you notice, she's even wearing green emerald ear-rings for St Patrick's Day - and as an Irishman, I appreciate that. I always knew the current generation of women tennis had potential to be great and consistent. And exactly players like Rybakina, Sabalenka and Krejcikova make the women tennis more exciting! Yeah, although the lost, Iga is still a great player, but she needs competition! That's great not only for us, as fans, but also for her, as player, because she would work to improve it. And i think Elena Rybakina could be her biggest kryptonite for long years... She has the playing style and mentality to be champion for long years!

@Wolfgang Wiesinger Not sure what you mean by "strongest". I like Rybakina, but to suggest she's better than Williams is not supported by any evidence. In fact, the evidence suggests she's not up there with Graf, Seles, Navratilova, Barty, etc etc etc. Even the suggestion that her movement is better than Serena's is likely a product of recency bias. Will she rise? Very possibly. Will she make #1 some day? Also very possible, but not a given. It's not even clear she'll have the better career and record than Swiatek.

I would not call this solid tennis, currently she might be the strongest player of all time, there is just no weakness. She has compareable power as Williams, but her movement is better.

Great match. Elena shows her how matured she has become . She will be one of the top players in this new generation of players. I have been following her for the last two years because I saw her raw talent and now she is confident of her abilities. Too bad for the rest of the field including Sabalenka. She shows the ferocity of Sharapova but the calmness of Stefi Graf and of course the power of the Williams sisters. She will be multi grandslam soon as long as her health keeps up. I predict that she will be the next one to win on all different courts. She will continue to dominate Iga just like Serena did over Maria. Sorry Iga I backed you when you won your first grandslam but now there is a new superhero .

I was fortunate enough to see Elena play in Toronto's WTA 1000 event last year, and even though she lost to Gauff in that match (Gauff had the defensive match of her life), I was blown away by the fluidity of her strokes and how effortless the power is she can generate on both the back- and forehand wing. At the time her foot speed was her achilles heel around the court, but in the off season she seemed to improve this aspect of her game, as she's getting to a lot more balls out wide, fully balanced, resulting in, a higher percentage of hard driven balls being administered to her opponents. It is devastating; most women, save for Sabalenka, cannot handle the barrage of pace Elena can now bring to a match. If she remains healthy, I would not be surprised if Elena (or Sabalenka, to be fair) were #1 by the end of the year.

It's not a mental block that's preventing Iga from playing well against Rybakina. It's the powerful, flat balls from Rybakina which doesn't give Swiatek enough time to set up her shots. Iga likes slow, spinny balls like Gauff's, and only Rybakina in the WTA gives her consistent, powerful flat balls from both forehand and backhand. That, combined with Rybakina's serve which i think is the best in the WTA, is just too much for Iga to handle.
NamesAreRandom
3 күн бұрын
Swiatek didn't hit with enough depth, if you bounce balls on the service line it's easy for Rybakina to setup and hit, and she has enough power that even Swiatek can't get them back. Rybakina's weakness is mobility so you've got to hit deep into the corners and Swaitek couldn't do that today.

Rybakina made swiatek look like an amateur. What a match. She is definitely Swiatek’s kryptonite.

Elena continues her rampage, love seeing her topple Swiatek with such ease! What a champion! But why in these tournaments now there are so many empty seats?! If you cant fill them, then at least give them to a local school or something!

Rybakina champion of what? Empty seats? Tennis level is too high for Amecicans to understand.

Elena is the real deal! Swiatek couldn’t read her strokes and where to go. Very interested to see the final again against Sabalenka. Wimbledon 🏆 AO runner up🏅 she is definitely top 3 and can become no. 1 if she can keep this level for the rest of this year. She is so resilient. With a bit more flavors in her game plan nobody can come near her in the future. I think I have become her supporter now 😊

Needless to say, I wasn't expecting such a clinical dispatch of the best WTA player on tour right now, is she tired or something? Or is Elena just wayyyyy too good? I can't tell but congrats to both ladies anyway and rooting for Elena to go all the way!

Its not easy to send Iga home with a 2 & 2, yikes. The silent assassin has struck again. Was she wearing back magnets a few days ago? I thought she got a huge tattoo on her back but its gone. Iga seems like the kind of person of when she loses, she goes home and practices for 4 hrs. Elena just seems so calm.

Elena's cross-court forehead was especially deadly, sometimes stunning Iga, and Iga had no answer for it. WTG, Elena!

A rock solid outing by the Ice Queen making it look easy🔥 Dictating play with power and placement, having Iga on defensive mode throughout the match - not an easy feat outpacing Iga. Elena also displaying superb approaching slice shots. Well done 👏 Her Final mission: Ousting Shriekalenka in the same stoic/silent fashion.

@Weston Meyer Missing first serves isn't comparable to double faulting the match away. SABALENKA basically started all her serving at love 40. The match was a mess and RYB should have won alot easier if she was the better player . Off to watch the men's match :) 😀
Weston Meyer

@Rich kemp She had nearly under 50% 1st serves while Sabalenka had over 60%. Rybakina’s returns were the reason why she won the 2nd set, she took it despite serving like crap(she served like crap in the tiebreak too despite Sabalenka’s dfs). Rybakina served better in Australia than in Indian Wells actually.

@Weston Meyer Served worse than SABALENKA? Lol. Not a chance . Announcers even stated SABALENKA serve was a disaster.
Weston Meyer

@Rich kemp Rybakina gave her that break at 5-2, she gets excited when she is about to win and she needs to learn to deal with that(but she has never been in that situation before for both that kind of a title and serving to beat Sabalenka so it can be forgiven). Rybakina actually served worse than Sabalenka today btw. Rybakina can serve much better than that and she is not utilizing her movement, she should be playing more like Medvedev on returns and 2nd serves instead of lobbing and slicing anything outside her strike zone.

@Weston Meyer If SABALENKA served half way decent it would have been an easy match. RYB could barely close out first set. This match was a joke.

Swiatek's heavy high bouncing top spin doesn't bother Rybakina because she's 6 feet tall! The ball bounces right at her strike zone!
